TOMER exam

The word TOMER stands for Türkçe Öğretim Merkezi, meaning Turkish Education Center. It should be noted that this exam is one of the most famous and important entrance exams for Turkish language universities in Turkey.

This test is very important for various educational centers, universities, etc., and it can be considered as one of the prerequisites for entering the universities of Turkey, those universities whose teaching language is Istanbul Turkish.

The purpose of the Tomer test is to measure the Turkish language level of the applicants. In simpler terms, this exam is similar to the IELTS and TOEFL exams in English. All people who intend to work, study or become citizens of Turkey. They must have this document that, based on the type of need, they can get different points in the TOMER test, which we will explain below.

The TOMER exam consists of six sections: Listening, Structure, Reading, Spoken Interaction, Spoken Production, Writing, which carefully measures the Turkish language knowledge of the applicants in all aspects.

Classification of Tomer degree and different levels of Tomer

Documents are presented in two different types:

  • Diploma or diploma
  • Certificate (Sertifika) or certificate

diploma

The validity of this certificate is lifelong, and by taking the TOMER test once, your mastery of the Turkish language will be confirmed forever. Universities all over Turkey accept the TOMER diploma for further studies.

People applying to continue their education in Turkey must get at least C1 grade in this exam, and people who want to work in Turkey can work in this country by getting C2 grade.

Sertifika

The validity of this degree is between 6 months and 2 years and it is held at two levels, preliminary and intermediate.

The validity of the preliminary certificate is 6 months, and the participant in this test must obtain a grade of B2 in order to obtain the intermediate certificate, which is valid for 2 years, and must obtain a minimum grade of B1.

After the expiration of the validity period of the certificate, the applicant must apply again to renew its validity.

As the TOEFL test is conducted by ETS, the TOMER test is also conducted by UTS, which stands for Uzaktan Turkce Sinavi.

Tomer has 6 levels from A1 to C1:

1. Level A1 "General communication ability - dealing with simple questions and answers"

2. Level A2 "Basic knowledge of the language - ability to speak about predictable topics"

3. Level B1 "Intermediate knowledge of the language - dealing with some unusual situations, for example to open a bank account"

4. Level B2 "Good knowledge of the language - ability to describe a wide range of topics, for example to describe a place in detail"

5. Level C1 "Very good knowledge of the language - able to deal with unpredictable topics and subjects"

6. Level C2 "Awareness of the language at a scientific level, maybe better than the mother tongue"
